What is allergen immunotherapy?
It is a novel treatment approch where a person sensitized to an allergen (Eg. A pollen) is treated with the same antigen in such a way that the allergic reponse to that antigen gets weakened gradually and patient’s symptoms improves.
Is there any side effects to sublingual immunotherapy (allergy drops)?
Allergy drops are very safe and side effect free. Hence they are instilled at home. However minor local itching can occur in some patients due to irritation. They are usually self limiting and does not need specific treatment usually.
Is there any side effects to subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots)?
Allergy shots are safe and free from medication related side effects. But there is a rare risk of developing an allergic reaction to the injected allergen. Mostly these reactions are limited to the injection site and includes itching and erythema (Local reaction). Hence injections are teken at allergy clinics only. It is safe under an experienced allergist.

Yes! Inhalers are just like any other medicines. They contain lowest possible dosage of medicines and does not posses significant side effects. They are recommended by international guidelines.
How to stop regular requirement of Inhaler?
Inhaler is used for various lunv conditions. Asthma is one of them. Duration of inhalation therapy is variable from person to person according to treating doctor’s judgement. In case of allergic asthma, regular need for inhalers can be reduced by environmental allergen control and allergen immunotherapy.
